It is hard to believe that it has been almost 25 years since we traveled to Colombia to adopt an adorable little baby girl. We named her Katherine Rose. We didn't realize then how much she was going to change all of our lives. Despite her significant developmental disabilities, Katherine has been able to achieve many things and has taught us all important lessons along the way. That said, it hasn't always been easy, and it really has been quite the journey. We are forever grateful to AHRC for the support they have provided to Katherine over the years. They were there for us every step of the way.
Katherine now lives in a wonderful AHRC group home with her friends and she counts down the days until her vacation at Camp Loyaltown each summer. She has also now been working at a job in a food store in her local community for over 6 months. On her days off from work she attends a wonderful day program. She is so proud of each goal she achieves. None of this would have been possible without AHRC.
AHRC allows Katherine and over 2,200 other individuals with developmental disabilities to live more fulfilling, self-directed lives. AHRC is dedicated to providing opportunities for friendships, recreation, and inclusion in workplaces and the community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through AHRC thousands of people have successfully been accepted for their diverse talents and potential.
Our family will be walking in support of AHRC on October 29th. Please consider joining us or making a donation to help this wonderful cause. Any support you can give means so much to Katherine and the rest of our family.
