BCCS July 2025 E News Rev 1

Dear Families and Friends,

Summer Session is in full swing! Students are learning through play — splashing in the pool, planting pumpkin seeds for the fall harvest, and growing in confidence every day. Whether in summer or throughout the school year, this growth is made possible by the strong partnership of parents, teachers and school staff. Together, we support students in taking the next steps on their educational journey.

As we look ahead, we are closely monitoring how the passage of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act” may impact our school community. We will continue to share timely advocacy updates as the Act reshapes state social safety nets, reducing funding for Medicaid, which supports IEP-mandated services like speech and occupational therapy, and SNAP, which many families rely on. Learn more.

In times of both progress and uncertainty, it’s important that your elected officials hear from you. Let them know how this legislation affects your family.

Thank you for being an essential part of our school community and for all you do to help create a future where every child is seen, supported and valued.

Best regards,

Brookville Students Splash Into Summer Fun

July marked the beginning of another fantastic summer session for the students in our school programs. School days at BCCS are always fun, but summer days are extra special because each school has a unique way of infusing more excitement into children’s days.

With summer-centric activities and alternate play days, teachers and staff always ensure students have the best summer ever.

Fun Fridays at the Education Center

The sounds of laughter, music and splashes of water balloons and soakers filled the air at the Brookville Campus on Friday, July 18 as part of the second Fun Friday event of the summer at the Children’s Education Center.

In three separate sessions, students of all ages took to the field with their classmates, ready to compete in a Water Relay, made up of seven stations: Leaky Cup Obstacle Course, Balloon Balance Relay, Push Cup Relay, Sponge Relay, Don’t POP the Balloon Relay, Balloon Handoff Relay, and the Water Play Tent.

The weather could not have been more perfect. Dragonflies danced around the field, seeming to join in the fun while keeping their distance from students and staff. Classes competed in teams, taking their time to enjoy each game with their friends and staff, as well as some friendly chasing and splashing in between.

Post Avenue Occupational Therapist Shares Sensory Friendly Summer Tips

Summer session is in full swing at Post Avenue Preschool. During summer school days, students continue the same skill-building and learning-fueled experiences they enjoy throughout the school year, but with an added dose of fun. This is especially valuable for students who benefit from available clinical services, as they can continue to attend weekly sessions with Rachel Beachamp, an occupational therapist (OT) at Post Avenue school.

One to two days a week students meet with Rachel to work on activities that develop their fine and gross motor skills—where delays may be attributed to sensory processing needs. As students strengthen these skills, they’ll be better equipped to engage in meaningful activities and improve social participation.

Marcus Avenue Preschool Says Farewell to
Decades-long Teacher

A bittersweet celebration took place at Marcus Avenue Preschool this June, just days before students ended the school year saying their goodbyes ahead of the summer session. Teachers and staff also gathered to say goodbye to Sharon Levenson, a Special Education Teacher who has been supporting young learners for decades.

Sharon celebrated her retirement at a luncheon with her colleagues. In the school gym, staff hung banners, decorated with balloons, and shared a meal while recounting stories from the last 28 years.
