Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are writing to update you on BCCS' Extended-School-Year Services during the summer.

BCCS delayed making a final decision for summer services in the hopes that we would be able to offer some form of in-person services as we understand that remote instruction may not be ideal for students with special needs. However, given the short notice we received with the Governor’s Executive Order and after careful and lengthy deliberation, we realize that we simply do not have enough time to put into place all the necessary requirements to offer a safe and protected educational environment for your children. Our goal is to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff while remaining in compliance with requirements from the New York State Education Department (NYSED), Department of Health (DOH) and Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS).

We continue to seek guidance and clarification from all the regulatory agencies and look forward to receiving further information from NYSED, as the Regents has set up a Task Force with four regional meetings this month to discuss the issues around reopening schools in the fall.

BCCS is committed to providing the highest quality services to our students and their families. We have been and will remain hard at work to complete the BCCS Reopening Plan, while the students and staff continue with remote learning in July and August so that we can safely re-open our doors in September.

Thank you for your continued support as we move forward. We are excited about our anticipated fall reopening. We will be scheduling a series of town hall meetings to discuss next steps and our plan for moving forward in greater detail. You will receive an invitation in the near future. In addition, we will continue to provide updates throughout the summer on our progress. We very much miss seeing the smiling faces of the children, and look forward to seeing them again in the very near future.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to reach out to your School Director, Chris O’Connor, Associate Executive Director, or me.

Thank you.

Stay well,
