Update School Reopening.png

Dear BCCS Staff Members,

I hope this letter finds you safe and well. We are pleased to share that all BCCS schools will reopen on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, using Hybrid Plan #3. Thank you to all of our staff who shared your encouragement, concerns and ideas on BCCS’ reopening plans. Your insight helped us finalize our reopening plan, which was submitted to the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) and the New York State Department of Health (DOH).

School reopening will follow Hybrid Plan #3. A hybrid learning model is defined as a combination of in-person and remote instruction. Approximately half of our students will be in school while the other half participate in online learning. Students will be reporting to school on Wednesday, September 9, 2020.

Staff will report to work according to their regular scheduled hours, unless specifically directed otherwise. Students attend school on an alternating schedule as outlined below:
o Group A will attend school and receive in-person instruction on Monday, Tuesday and every other Wednesday, with remote instruction provided Thursday and Friday.

o Group B will attend school and receive in-person instruction on Thursday, Friday and every other Wednesday, with remote instruction provided on Monday and Tuesday.

Every effort will be made to provide as many in person therapy sessions as possible. Staff will continue to provide remote instruction and services to students on scheduled remote days as well as to students that have elected to remain full-time remote learning.
o Staff will continue to provide remote students live/synchronous instruction/services to the greatest extent possible.
o Families will have the option to switch to/from the hybrid model during the school year.

This reopening plan, as all decisions, are guided by regulatory agencies, including the DOH, NYSED,  and the Office for Children and Family Services (OCFS). Following this guidance, we will prepare our schools for in-person services by implementing necessary changes to our physical space and programs. We also will continue to seek guidance and clarification from our regulatory agencies to ensure the safest and most effective reopening possible. When guidance conflicts, we will follow the strictest standard, as directed by NYSED.

During this time we will continue to monitor our progress, modify procedures if and when needed and implement changes to better meet the needs of our students in the safest manner possible. We will provide staff with regular updates as we continuously review our plans to determine if/when we can return to full-time in-person instruction.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and look forward to welcoming staff back in-person in September. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your school's director.

Thank you,
