Dear Families and Staff Members:
Today, Governor Cuomo announced during his daily briefing that group homes certified by the state Office for People with Developmental Disabilities can begin visitation this coming Friday. This is welcome news for the many families who have been advocating for a plan of reopening to include group homes for people with developmental disabilities.
During the conference, Governor Cuomo indicated that group home providers will be required to notify the state if they choose to allow visitation and will be required to follow all OPWDD guidelines. We are awaiting further information from OPWDD regarding the specifics of the visitation. At present, we do not have any revised guidelines from OPWDD toward providing protocols to ensure the safety of the person supported, our staff members and our visitors to the home.
Program leaders are actively engaged with provider associations in an effort to learn more about this most recent announcement. We are committed to keeping our families informed and engaged, and will update you as soon as we have more information.
