Dear Citizens Families and Friends, 

I hope this email finds you safe and well. As another week passes with New York on Pause, we expectantly look for news of when we can again join together and our in-person services can recommence. Unfortunately, New York State’s criteria for phased re-openings may not be met, here on Long Island, for the next few weeks.

It’s our hope to resume our typical service schedule as soon as we can do so safely for the people we support and their families. We know the impact these changes have and the importance of returning to a routine of supportive professionals and programs with friendly faces. We’ve sought to integrate as much of our community values into our virtual services as possible. The vibrancy of these remote supports goes to the passionate commitment of our creative residential, clinical and recreational professionals.

Whether in times of success or challenge, relationships remain the foundation of Citizens. Our cornerstone is, of course, our team of direct support professionals, who ensure the health, safety and well-being of our vulnerable population.

 As other services remain virtual, their in-person support becomes even more meaningful. Your words of thanks on our Facebook and Instagram account are appreciated, but I do also urge you to continue sending this letter to our local lawmakers. The House has revealed a stimulus package proposal and may vote as soon as Friday, May 15. By sending this letter, you are helping ensure the needs of our staff and community are seen and heard.
