 Employee update during covid-19.png

Dear Employees,

I hope this letter finds you healthy and following all guidelines for staying safe.

I am pleased to share that all unused accrued vacation time will carry over on employees’ work anniversaries, even if your balance exceed the usual two-week maximum carry-over amount.  We greatly appreciate the many employees who are sacrificing their time off to support our residences, and we want you to know that the vacation time you’ve earned will be there for you to take much deserved time off for yourself when this crisis is over.

I also want to thank those of you who called the Human Resources Department in response to my letter last Wednesday in order to assist in our homes.  Your help is greatly appreciated during this crisis, in providing much needed household support, staff members who normally work there are able to assist the people who live there.

I would like to remind employees who are working fewer than their full number of authorized hours and who have not called and/or are unwilling to work in one of our residences are required to utilize their accrued vacation and holiday time starting April 11, 2020 in order to receive pay.  Please also be reminded that the agency’s policy is that accrued sick time may be used only when you are ill, and you will be required to provide a doctor’s note after three consecutive days of absence due to illness.  In addition, please remember that personal days may not be taken in combination with vacation, holiday, or sick days.

Any employee who has not called Human Resources or who has called and has indicated that they are not willing to work in our homes, should still call the HR number at any time (516) 497-7648 and check in.  Once again, please be assured that you will not be required to perform any functions in a home that require certification or specialized training, such as administering medication, performing CPR or First Aid, lifting and transferring, and physically intervening with someone.

All employees assigned to work in a home will be oriented to the home and will receive instruction from the Management Team and/or Direct Support Professionals working in the home, and will work under the direction of those staff members while in the house.  All employees also will receive Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as a mask and gloves.  Please recognize that your assistance in our homes is vital for us to continue supporting people safely and effectively through the current crisis.

We must continue to work as a team and support one another in order to ensure the safety of those who require our help daily for their very survival.  Together, we will see this crisis through, and we will be stronger than ever.  Thank you again for your dedication to supporting our mission during this most trying of times.

Sincerely,
