From the Desk of the CEO

Dear Families and Friends,

I hope you’ve been enjoying these last few weeks of summer. Whether at a ball game, barbecue, or just soaking up the sunshine, it's been wonderful to see the people we support making the most of the season

And, it’s all possible because of our amazing team. Every day, they create positive outcomes that touch of the lives of everyone in our community, and for that, I am sincerely grateful. I appreciated the opportunity to celebrate all of our staff at this year’s Staff Appreciation Day: enjoying music, delicious food, and a volleyball game together.

There’s another chance to say thanks coming up soon—Direct Support Professional Recognition Week in September. You can share how DSPs are making a difference by submitting a shout-out, photo, or video by Wednesday, September 3. We’ll be sharing our thanks in many ways, but your story could be featured in our annual recognition book and on social media. You can also stay up to date on the issues impacting our community at the Advocacy Center.

Thank you for staying connected to our community and for supporting opportunities that move our mission forward.

Best Regards,

Adam Levine Shines Bright at Citi Field

It was an incredible day at Citi Field on July 22, when Adam Levine sang the Star-Spangled Banner cheered on by his family, community members from AHRC Nassau residences, and Mets fans gearing up to watch their team face the Los Angeles Angels.

Adam is no stranger to the spotlight. As he walked onto the field, Adam waved and smiled at the event crew before positioning himself behind the microphones facing an enthusiastic audience.

For nearly two decades, Adam has maintained this tradition, delighting hundreds of fans who proudly sing along with him and signal appreciation with roaring cheers.

Hooked on Books Reading Club Celebrates with
Celestial Art Exhibit

Feelings of excitement, friendship, and accomplishment filled the community room at the Glen Cove Public Library on July 30, when people supported with day services at Glen Head, Carle Place, and Sea Cliff attended, “Beyond the Stars: Hooked on Books Art Exhibition Reception.”

The nearly 40 people in attendance participated in a collaborative art project, each creating their unique version of a space themed collage that featured a spaceship and the sun and stars surrounded by a smattering of celestial bodies.

The finished pieces were then beautifully displayed on the wall accompanied by the artists’ names and photographs.

“I just got a certificate for Beyond the Stars from Marissa,” said Pauline Wisz who receives day services at Carle Place. “I really like Hooked on Books. It’s fun because you read, you do art, you color. Sometimes we meet the author of a book.”

Holiday Party in July Connects AHRC Community

On the evening of Thursday, July 10, people supported by AHRC Nassau strolled through the familiar glass doors of The Sterling at Bethpage for the Holly Jolly July Party.

This night of friendships and new connections welcomed 200 guests to celebrate the festive cheer of the holidays in the middle of summer.

Bringing together the best of both seasons, The Sterling’s walls were decorated with red and green tinsel as well as banners of tropical Santas in flip-flops.

As guests made their way to the ballroom, they were gifted Santa hats to complement their tropical shirts and dresses, LED foam glow sticks, and shutter glasses among other party favors. On the dance floor, DJ Carl Bartelli spun a vibrant mix of wintertime classics and contemporary hits.
